PDA or Potato Dextrose Agar, is used to culture fungi. PDA contains 200g Potato infusion, 20g Dextrose, 20 g Agar and 1 liter distilled water.

A New Blood Test Could Spot Concussions Within Hours
Every year, as many as 300,000 Americans with traumatic brain injuries go undiagnosed, often because they brush off their symptoms or because nothing unusual appears on CT scans of their brains. Without a diagnosis, people risk getting another concussion on top of the one they already have, increasing the chance of complications such as coma and death. But a new blood test could spot a brain injury within a few hours, enabling people to take time off to recover properly.

Tiger Swallowtail on Dame’s Rocket: I haven’t seen this many tiger swallowtail butterflies in awhile, so we must be doing something right. They are absolutely loving the Dame’s Rocket in the front shade garden.
One of the host plants for the caterpillars are red maple trees, of which we have an abundance of on our property. By the way, I think the individual I photographed is a female, judging by all the blue on the underside of its wings. (Click on a photo for a larger view.)
